The museum is housed in the courtyard of the church of Sotiros, in the old picturesque neighborhood of Kakopetria.
The old olive mill with the characteristic millstone that is now exhibited in the Museum, is out of service. The traditional mill consisted of two stones, "scoutellin" and "millstone". "Scoutellin" is a circular stone that served as a basin, while the millstone is a circular stone with a hole in the centre where a beam was placed horizontally. The millstone, as residents of Kakopetria describe, was rotated with the help of men who pushed the beam. In particular, two men stood on one side and two on the other and as they moved around the millstone, the olives that were previously placed under it were mashed. Immediately afterwards, this pulp, according to the residents of Kakopetria, was placed in the large jars where the vice squeezed it and then the oil flowed.
